Thrax Punks (GR) live in Zürich
Beschreibung
Thrax Punks is a Greek band originating from Thrace. Starting from the region's traditional music, the band members began to experiment over the years and incorporate more modern aesthetics and styles from various musical genres around the world, such as live looping, psychedelic parts, heavy guitars, math-rock and punk outbursts. This September, they will be back at Grounds to present us their latest album.
Traditional songs bear so much authenticity in their melodies and lyrics, that they effortlessly remain indelible over time. Each generation adapts its own perspective to these and passes them on to the next. So do Thrax Punks, with their main instruments gaida (bagpipe), davul (drum) and an electric guitar. Through their sounds you can travel to older times, stories and emotions, so timeless that past, present and future seem to be one.
To date, they have performed at most major music festivals in Greece, as well as concerts and festivals in the UK, Germany, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Cyprus. In 2016 they released their first EP, and in 2019 they presented their first self-titled LP , in a nationwide tour, with many sold out shows.
Over the last years, they have collaborated with renowned artists and recorded music for film and theater plays. In 2021 they performed live their own original music for the tragedy of Euripides “Bacchae” in the ancient theater of Epidaurus, as part of the Athens Epidaurus festival, with additional performances in the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and in Cyprus.
The original music composed for the theatrical play was released during spring of 2024.
Their latest album THRAX PUNKS II was released on June 2024, including original compositions , covers of traditional songs and one song composed for the theatrical play ‘Spyridoules’.
